The key really is not so much the angiogram image, but more how your Father 'feels' and if his heart is at risk of serious damage. If he has developed collaterals and feels well enough to have a good quality of life, then cardiologists will probably agree that he can continue to just take medication. If your Father feels that his quality of life is not good enough due to the disease, and is finding normal daily routines too difficult, then he could have angioplasty. One of the best mottos to remember is "if it's working, leave it alone" but like I said, this depends on how your Father feels. Although collaterals have formed, this does not mean the disease will not increase, and in fact it could worsen to the point where the collaterals have little effect. You also have to consider that if the disease increases too much, then angioplasty may not remain a future option. So, it is important that lifestyle changes are made that are beneficial to health.
