heart arrythmia

by healthygirl, Jul 18, 2007 12:00AM
Over the past few years,  I have had a few episodes in which I have had some type of  ?arrythmia after bending forward at the waist.  It feels like my heart stops briefly, than thumps a few times, and takes off rapidly.  I have chest pain and shortness of breath with the episodes.  I usually sit down on the ground and the episodes resolve within a couple of minutes.  Again, it has happened only about twice a year but it is very scary when it happens.  Are there positional arrythmias? Is it of any great concern.

This sounds as if when you bend at the waist your heart rate increases and you become more symptomatic of the increased heart rate and/or premature atrial contractions. However, since you have chest pain and shortness of breath it may be worth investigating from a coronary atherosclersosis, especially if you have a strong family history of coroanry artery disease or are middle aged then you probably need a stress test in addition to an event monitor.
