Open heart surgery is very routine now a days even in India. So if money is not a problem and your Dr. recommends it then I would say go for it. After the open heart surgery it takes nearly two months for your chest bone to heal. The heart heals much earlier than that.

My EF was calculated yesterday after a stress test at 33%. It has been around that for almost 8 years. I take a number of tablets, however, i also had an open heart surgery nine years ago. In addition to the heart, I am an insulin taking diabetic and have thyroid problem too. One might call me as somebody with severe health problems, however, I go to work 50 miles from where I live and lead a nearly normal life !  Yes, everybody is different. I would try to get your mother to look at the bright side of life like having a child who cares about his/her mother.

Good luck !

dear chinnu804 i advice you to follow the doctors advice , curable tablets will only help to alleviate the pain and few symptoms but won't solve the real problem, from what you described i guess your mum will be having her mitral valve replaced, its better she go for it, also taking into account her age , the old she gets the more her the valves gets calcified. furthermore it can  lead to right heart failure which is obviously accompanied with several complications and more pain to your mum.
JUST GO FOR IT ,the necessary tablets like diruetics, warfarin digitalis, etc......... i bet your mum already taking it , these is no other miraculous tablet which can cure what she has apart from an open heart surgery. yes open heart surgery is risky , you never  know what might happen , but its a risk you have to take.
i hope you will do what' s best for your mother.
take care
good luck
