The echocariogram (echo) test shows a hole in the heart.  The hole causes a blood exchange between chambers rather than pumped in the normal sequence of functionality.  If not treated, the heart is overworked and can fail in the longer term.

The procedure using a device that is threaded in collapsed form into the heart by a catheter (narrow tube-like structure) and is opened at the site of the rupture in the ventricle walls. It is made of flexible nitinol metal and covered with a polyester fabric. New heart tissue can grow on this fabric, repairing the hole permanently.
