heart failure - mis-diagnosis?

by Marion, Aug 09, 1999 12:00AM
In May this year I was admitted to hosipital as an emergency with what was diagnosed as acute heart failure. I was tld my lungs were almost full of fluid. Only symptons I had were breathleness mainly during the night and extreme tireness.
All tests, including echoscan, came back normal.  Since then I have been admitted twice more with similar symptoms. I was told I had an irregular heartbeat 2 years ago but have never been aware of it.  I am on 10mg Zestril, 40mg Frusamide, 150mg Asprin

Dear Marion

This sounds like a serious situation with no definite diagnosis. You should see a cardiologist at a large medical center for further evaluation. It is possible that your problems are due to a blockage in the coronary arteries, for which a cardiac catheterization might be useful. It could also be that your blood pressure gets too high at times, and this is what causes the heart failure episodes.

I hope this has been useful. I wish you the best of luck. Feel free to write back.

The Heart Center website contains a directory of the cardiology staff that can be used to select the physician best suited to address your cardiac problem.
