It depends on the underlying cause. Heart failure indicates the heart is not pumping enough blood/oxygen to meet the systems demand. If the heart failure is due to heart muscle damage from a heart attack, muscle disease, etc., the condition may not get any better but can be controlled with medication and reduce any progression.
Sometimes, as in my case, five years ago I had ischemiac (lack of blood flow) from occluded vessels and a silent heart attack. The heart cells were stunned and impaired the contractions (EF 13-29%). Stenting a blocked artery provided sufficient blood flow and contractions returned to a normal EF 59%. Also, the left ventricle was enlarged and medication has returned the LV to normal dimensions.
Heart valves can get better and arteries can reroute themselves. It depends on what kind of heart failure you have right or left side or both and depending on how long you have had heart failure. Did your parents have heart troubles? Heart failure can be managed and medication can be adjusted to help you feel better.
