heart making me cough

I have MVP and tricuspid regurgitation, a couple weeks ago I started randomly feeling like my heart was in my throat and it'd make me cough, it has become persistent whenever I am even mildly active, I have not experienced tachycardia with this (something I previously had issues with) my heart when I feel my pulse feels relatively steady but the coughing is starting to bother my chest, it feels worse when I take deep breaths.

Is this just another symptom of the valve problems? I'm a 26yo female, was diagnosed with MVP as a child, tricuspid regurgitation was found in 2010.

The sensations you are describing can happen with extra heart beats or with abnormal heart rhythms, both of which are common with valve disease. Extra heart beats can come from the upper chambers of the heart (premature atrial contractions, PACs) or from the lower chambers of the heart (premature ventricular contractions, PVCs) and are benign. If the mitral valve prolapse is associated with mitral regurgitation, or if the tricuspid regurgitation is severe enough, sometimes the upper chambers (atria) get enlarged, which predisposes you to an abnormal heart rhythm called atrial fibrillation, which can cause these symptoms. If your pulse feels regular during this time, however, this is probably not the explanation, as this is an irregular rhythm. It is probably reasonable to have a repeat echo to assess the valves and the size of the atria, as well as to have a Holter monitor, which will monitor your heart rate and rhythm for 24-48 hours to look for an explanation for your symptoms.
