My father is 55 years old and his heart pumping 58%. He hasn't BP, diabetes. We had done all cardiac related test and results was normal. Is this 58% heart pumping okay??

I compromised my respiratory system by working many hours in dusty environment.  I newly purchase a home and I began finishing the basement, and sanding dry wall without a mask may have been the underlying cause.  Trying to sleep caused hyperventalation and dry cough...after two nights of that, I went to ER thinking I had a minor pulmonary problem, but it was congested heart failure (minor edema).

I had never had a health problem, nor family history of any medical problem, etc. so I took good health as a given almost all my life without any thoughts of consequences. I must have had silent ischemia for years because my 100% blocked LAD had collaterals, and my RCA required a stent to help blood flow to go around the bottom of the heart to left side an area that should have been fed by the LAD and a 70% circumflex.

I must have been a walking time bomb and with a weaker than normal heart.  Take care and hope you doing well with your heart issues.

I assume you suffered shortness of breath, but I was wondering, in your case did it gradually get worse over several months, or was it relatively quick?  I've read that some people become affected very quickly while others seem to gradually progress over quite a long period of time. Do you know why this would be? is it how much exertion they do perhaps? I'm comparing with the cause as hypertension, as I realise different causes could influence the time involved.

Quote:my father heart pumping rate 31% . doctor told me that my father heart pumping rate was not increased. i want know that it is possible to increase heart pumping rate.

>>>>>>I had below 29% ejection fraction (amount of blood pumped with each heartbeat...normal is approx. 50 to 70% with a margin of error with the estimate of of about 10%) My current EF is 59%, left ventricle has returned to normal size.

Depending on the underlying cause for the weak heart contractions.  In my situation an enlarged heart reduced contraction.  The heart was medically termed dilated cardiomyopathy.  High blood pressure caused the heart to overwork, and the heart over compensated by eventually enlarging. Medication reduced the heart's workload and within about 6 months the heart returned to normal.  My first symptom was heart failure that causes lung congestion (edema), and I was in ICU for several days...

There are individuals that function adequately with a low EF and medication can keep the heart from progessing to heart failure (below 29% and there are individuals in the heart problem population that are not aware there heart is in the heart failure range and function adequately...I had no symptoms such as angina (chest pain) for my low EF, and the medical community terms that as silent ischemia.  If I had had symptoms and properly treated, I may never had to be an emergency heart patient.

Did your father have an echocardiogram?  If so, what is the heart wall dimensions?  Is there heart muscle disease?  Any heart structual problems? If you have additional information there may/can be a more precise answers to your question,

Hope this provides a perspective, and provides information that can be directed to your doctor.  Thanks for the questions, and if you have any further questions or comments you are welcome to respond.  Take care and wish your father the best.

Hi i read your post and i believe you are talking about your fathers Ejection Fraction is 31% and deflinately yes it can be increased thru lifestyle changes as well as medication if the doc moves in that direction w. your dads treatment program.  A normal EF as it is called usually runs somewhere between the 50-70 percents scope and some ways to increase an EF are through a low sodium diet, exercising as well as some sort of intervention like medication or possibly surgery however none of this should be undertaken unless you  run it past your dads doc.  The doctor should have some sort of written material to hand out to you in the way of pamplets that gives you an idea on how to raise his EF so that it works well with his treatment program...good luck w. this and happy holidays....
