Hi Patrick11,

your question is almost impossible to answer without detailed knowledge of the condition of your father's heart.

The bypass surgery would be a treatment to restore blood supply to the heart that is now limited by the blockages.

The ICD does not restore blood supply but can be helpful when heart rhythm problems are present or to be expected.
Heart rhythm problems often arise after a MI.

Depending on the actual state of his heart, one or both solutions could help him.

With the info you provide, if I was in your father's situation, I would prefer to let them try to open up the blockages with stents. If this is not possible then CABG.
Additionally, If no normal rhythm is present, an ICD implant may be helpful.
