hi im 28 and  have been diagnosed with heart failure, i am currently taking coersile and biocor, the medication seems to be working i am wondering would it be possible to stil have children as im still younge and i worry i mightnot be able to i also have psorisis and diabitis, plz ould some one let me know.

The issue of pregnancy in patients with cardiomyopathy is a difficult one and impossible to comment on in your specific situation without knowing all of your clinical data.

Issues affecting the recommendations include the risk of the medicines to the fetus and risk of stopping medicines to the mother, current level of symptoms, mechanism and genetics of the heart failure, level of ventricular dydfunction, concurrent valvular or coronary disease.

You should discuss these issues with bith a cardiologist and a OB-Gyn Maternal fetal medicine specialist before becoming pregnant.

I was told when I was 15 that I had a heart murmur and a enlarged heart. I was told at this time that I could never have kids.

Eight years later I found myself pregnant. I always wanted a child and I had said that I would try once and if it didn't work out it just wasn't meant to be.

When the doctors found out that I was pregnant they did all sorts of test on my heart. They found out that I also had IHSS, and because of this they did not want me to carry this child. I refused much to there dismay, so because of my stubborness they watched me very close and they did not have me take any meds at this time. The meds could of caused birth defects. When I almost lost him they had me do ultrasounds every other week, and the closer I got the more they saw me it was now every week. Each and everytime that I walked in there office they took blood. I became known to call them the vampire's house four viles everytime.

When I had about a month or two left they finally let me take the beta-blocker to slow down the heart. They said at that time the babe was developed enough that it would not hurt him. The day of the delivery they would not let me do any type of pushing at all, or any meds at all. When you have this heart condition you can not have a epadoral it affects the heart somehow so no pain meds until after the delivery. It was a natural birth all the way. Painful yes, but more so when he tore me and they tried to stich me without any pain meds. Once I had him they were able to give me something, but they didn't do this until my heart doctor arguing with them that I could feel everytime they stuck.

Anyway if you are planning on attempting to have a baby make sure that you stay with the heart doctor and just know that your delivery will be closely watched, but if you are meant to have a child you will. It was a risk worth taking for me.

I have recently been told that I have to have open heart surgery the doctor was shocked when I said that I had a son and I gave birth to him. She was amazed that the doctors even let me do it, and then made the statement does he realize that you could of given your life up to have him. So this is what you will be up against. Just think long and hard about the risk and talk with everyone and don't be afraid to tell them if anything seems out of place.
