high blood pressure medication

Over the past three years I have been treated for hypertension with many different medicines, some in combination but most alone.  The medicines tried are clonidine, covera, sular verapamil, prinivil, cozar, and the latest is toprol xl.  All of these medications have given me severe headaches.  Toprol xl was the best for awhile.  I could at least tolerate the headache.  Now I am getting much more severe headaches.  Do you know of any possible reason for this reaction?  Is there a common ingredient that I could be allergic tl?  Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks.

There may be common dyes used in these medications that you are reacting to.  Your pharmacist could find this information for you.  Toprol is actually used to treat migraine headaches so I doubt it is the medication itself.
