high c-reactive protien and sed rate

high c-reactive protien and sed rate

My husband is 74 years old and in excellent health (by all appearances).  He is active, still works long hours (up to 70 per week driving a log truck), and is not overweight.  His vision is excellent, but he requires hearing aids (duck hunting and automobile racing w/o ear protection).  At the age of 70, he set a record of sorts by riding his motorcycle from coast to coast in under 80 hours.

In his recent check up his c-reactive protein was listed at 94 (normal is 1-3), and his sed rate was around 90.  He has no apparent ill health.  He has no joint pain.  He has no heart trouble or chest pain.  He does occasionally awake at night with serious leg cramps. I am very worried because my own research into this CRP indicates an imminent cardiac event.  I'm worried this could happen while he's driving his truck, or worse, while he's out riding his motorcycle alone (which he does often).

He will see his doctor in 6 days, but in the meantime does anyone have any insights for us?  His doctor was clearly mystified by the CRP level before ordering the sed rate.  I'm not sure he's going to give us any more answers next week.  Any help?  Thank you in advance!

I should also add that he doesn't have high blood pressure, and his cholesterol readings have also been excellent.
