high ldl

high ldl

hello,
my ldl is on the high side and hdl on the low side.

my cardiologist prescribed omacor.  (which seems to be just fish oil)

i cannot tolerate statin drugs which raise my liver function.

is omacor the only choice? or there are better drugs without affecting my liver?

thanks,
nevmar

Have you tried the omacor?  If so, for how long?

Which statin drugs did you take in the past?  Some of them are stronger than others.

How high are your numbers?  Especially the LDL.  The higher the numbers (TC and LDL) the harder it will be to get them down with natural products.  Sometimes it wont come down at all as it was in my case, but if your numbers are not that high maybe diet, exercise and life style changes can make a difference.

Give the omacor a try and see what it will do for you.

Another option to discuss with your doctor is niacin therapy.  There some evidence that niacin can reduce LDL in some patients.  Here are a couple of web sites dealing with niacin studies that may  be useful to you:

http://www.niacin.com/niacin/en/lonza/cholesterol.html

Niacin may or may not be appropriate for you, but certainly it is a topic to explore with your doctor.   I would not suggest you try it without your doctor's permission..
