high pulse rate

high pulse rate

2 Weeks ago went to the dr and he gave me an EKG. He said the results were normal other then my heart rate was 126. He gave me some anxiety meds and told me to keep an eye on it and come back in a month. So for the last couple of days I have been taking my pulse alot . When I first wake up in the morning it has been between 78-86. But all throughout the day it is usually 102-120. Sometimes at work when busy it gets to 130. When I go home even when watching TV relaxing it never goes below 93. should I be concerned and is the dr right when he says keep an eye on it or should I be trying to get in to see a cardiologist? I am male 36 and overweight.

For most individuals, a normal heart rate is less than 100 beats per minute. There is a very long list of things that can cause a rapid resting heart rate. Certain heart rhythms, such as atrial fibrillation can cause a rapid heart rate. Other causes included fever, thyroid disease, dehydration, anxiety, pain, or heart failure. With exertion, your heart rate will increase. The maximum heart rate for most people is can be calculated by subtracting their age from 220.

A resting heart rate of 78, and even 93, is within the normal range.  Physical conditioning can lower your resting heart rate. If your resting heart rate is persistently above 100, you should see your doctor and make sure there is no underlying problem that is causing the rapid heart rate.
