how much can your echo change?

I have been having some shortness of breath...which i know can be a part of mitral valve prolapse...I had an echo done in February of this year and I now I am wondering if it is something new...could there be much change in a few months?  Should I get another one?

MVP usually doesn't have much in the way of symptoms and since you describe an echo result that's mild it is extremely unlikely you have suddenly developed severe regurgitation that would affect your breathing.

Perhaps you should have a regular check up that isn't centered around your heart.

Have you been evaluated for anxiety?

MVP is found in 2-4% of the population , it's very common and seems to have a genetic component. It is still routinely overdiagnosed (though nowhere near as often as it used to be) and fewer people actually have it than are told they have it. There is a genetic predisposition involved that is variably penetrant and about 30% of people who truly have MVP also have a close relative with a mitral valve issue.

Some people with MVP believe the anixiety they have is part of some syndrome, but since most people with MVP don't have anxiety attacks and most people with anxiety attacks don't have MVP the "syndrome" idea is probably bogus.

Generally, the more unfounded symptoms people suddenly turn up with the more likely it is that it stems from anxiety. It's a marker for it.

Hope you feel better soon.
