how to strengthen a weak heart?

The doctor told my mother she has a weak heart and he is going to give her medicine.  What else could she do to strenghten her heart?  She is disabled and on a ventilator via trach so she cannot do things like jog.

The topic you have opened is huge.  You would want to give more information to get an answer.  For example, what are the nature of her heart concerns; blockages, valve trouble, irregular heart beat, congestive heart failure?  Does she have diabetes?
Heart medications like Coreg and Ranexa are proven drugs that increase the efficiency of the heart muscle, they have helped many people on this board.  It would be a mistake in my opinion to reject them.
