hypertension

I just been diagnose with hypertension this month. I been going every week to measure my pressure and was first week 180/100 second week 182/103, the doctor decide to put me in medication bisoprolol/hctz 5/6.25 Then the third week with the medicine was 160/93, she decide to change the dosage to 10mg,  at the four week the pressure when finally down to 138/86.  she said i should keep taking the medication and they will see me again in June.  Do you think this is right.  I should take any other test?.  My blood test came ok. For how long I should be taking this medicine?

Thank you for your answers, Sorry to Proinsias that took a year to control your HBP.
I'm only 49 and it what you said is truth i will have to take my med for the rest of my live, I do not like this idea to much, but It that control my BP, I will have to take it.

BP meds have to be taken for the rest of your life especially with very high numbers like you.

Better taking meds than having a stroke or heart attack.

Hi, when I presented with hypertension it took the doctors nearly 12 months to eventually find a combination of pills to reduce my bp. It now stands at about 130/20 which is satisfactory but the downside of this is that I'll be on this medication for the rest of my live. I'm also taking one aspirin and a tab to keep my cholesterol level steady, albeit it has never been over 3.9. Hope things work out for you. Regards Proinsias
