hypothyroid and heart problems reltated?

Posted By Angela White on April 24, 1999 at 18:47:28
I was just very recently diagnosed with a hypothyroid, and about a week prior to the diagnosis I started having palpitations, chest pain, an irregular heartbeat, and difficulty taking deep breaths.
I've been on synthroid .025 for a few days now, and it has slowed down my resting pulse some (to an average of 70-something when it was 80-something), but it still tends to go off with any activity. The chest pain is still there, although I have found that pepcid does tend to relieve it a little. The breathing has become a bit easier, but is still troublesome at times, especially when lying down.
Unfortunately being stuck at school (I'm a 20 year old college student) I have been unable to see my doctor in person since my diagnosis, so she doesn't know about the recent heart developments. The so-called doctors at the health clinic on campus told me it was just stress. Then again they said the same thing about all the other symptoms I have been suffering from for the past three+ months that I now associate with my hypothyroidism (muscle pain, muscle weakness, hair loss, dry skin, etc.)
Anyway, I guess I'm just wondering if these problems with my heart are normal for people with hypothyroidism.
Thank you.
Angela
