infant blue lips/fingertips

I have no idea where to go with this but I am concerned.  I have an 14-month old son who started daycare about 4-1/2 months ago.  ON several occasions they reported to me that his upper lip as well as the fingertips on his left hand turned blue for no reason and then went away.  I addressed it with his pediatricain who was not very concerned because it only happened once or twice at the time but it seems to be increasing lately and was reporteed several times this week.  It has happene dwhen he is crying, NOT crying, eating, and just standing there.  NO correlation.  The doctor can find nothign wrong wiht him and tells me nto to worry but how can I not when it cannot be explained?  it is also NOT because eh is cold becaue on the contray he is usually warm and is often flushed in the cheeks but otherwise acts fine.  He acts no differently when it happens.  I would be thankful for any ideas you may have!  :)

There are a few possibilities but first off, I would recommend a second opinion. See if you can get a good picture of his fingertips when they turn color. Has he been seen by a cardiologist or rheumatologist yet? Share the pictures with another doctor and see what s/he has to say. My youngest son got blue lips when he played out in the cold but warmed up just fine. Blue fingertips are something else, especially if it happens at random times.

Blue lips and fingers could mean that his blood is not circulating as it should.  Need to see a cardiologist as soon as possible.  There could be something going on with his heart.
