I can give you some insight into the medical condition. Aortitis (the medical term for an inflamed aorta) occurs when inflammation occurs in the wall of the aorta in response to
an injury. The injury may be caused by infection (syphilis, rheumatic fever,
or endocarditis - infection of the heart valves) or autoimmune disorders where
the body attacks its own tissues (rheumatoid arthritis).
Risk would be an inflamed aorta will usually dilate in response to the inflammation (this is called an aneurysm...size greater than 4.0cm), but dissection (rupturing, tearing of the wall with blood flow directed down a false channel) and aortic regurgitation (leaking aortic valve in response to the dilated aorta) can also occur with aortitis. The diagnosis of aortitis is made when the aorta is noted to be dilated on a chest x-ray, a CT scan, a MRI scan, or on a transesophageal echocardiogram.
Sorry I can't help since I've never experienced that. My heart problems are more about rhythm. This will bump your question close to the top of the page again and might catch someone's attention.
