innocent murmur but really breathless in my 2 yr old

hi, my daughter was diagnosed with asthma at four months after suffering a recurrent wheeze from bronchiolitus. At about a year old they discovered she had a heart murmur but she had a scan and they said it was innocent. The problem is that she has always been a loud breather and got breathless quite easily and this is becoming more apparent as she gets older, she sometimes struggles to walk up the stairs and spends much of the day sat down. The concern i have is that when she had the heart scan she had a cold and the pictures werent clear, also she was tiny and wouldnt stay still. I suppose what i want to find out is whether this is a normal facet of asthma or whether it could be something to do with her heart even if its not congenital are there other conditions?

It's quite possible her breathlessness has nothing to do with her murmur. Many children have murmurs and gradually grow out of them. My kids did. I've had a murmur all my life but it hasn't affected me overall.

It sounds like her asthma is not well controlled yet. It's so difficult to explain to small children and get them to use their meds as needed. I went to a class on asthma (which I also have) and many of the Moms there were in the same boat as you; their kids were having a tough time breathing normally. Talk to her pediatrician again, explain what's going on. Also, if you haven't already, try to identify the triggers for your daughter. Maybe there's still something in the house bothering her. And perhaps the doctor will want to try doing another echo if it's been awhile. Your daughter's old enough to understand that she needs to hold still for a little bit while they tickle her chest with the wand. It doesn't hurt fortunately.

Hope you get some answers soon. It's tough to see our kids feel bad.
