Can anyone tell me anything about this finding on an echo?  My cardio didnt mention it to me, but it did show up on my echo results.  Kind of worrysome.

hi. just reading your responses about the interatrial septum. I had a tee done in 2003, and one done just yesterday. earlier findings were much more extreme than the recent one... specifically, the enlarged left and right atriums, an eccentric 3+ jet that disappeared, interatrial septum with mild aneurysmal motion that wasnt even mentioned,  not sure which test to believe? I don't know what to do anymore as my symptoms have gotten so much worse. my current kaiser doctors think i exaggerate my symptoms as (according to them), i shouldn't feel as bad as i do.  i exercise daily, don't drink or smoke, have had open heart surgery in 1966 as an 11 year old. some days after my workout i'm exhausted and by the next day, all is ok?  i'm so confused and depressed about this...

I also have a interatrial septal aneurysm.  I was told to take low dose aspirin for preventing such scares.  I was also told to try to keep my BP under 140 and not to push myself as hard as I was.  I do take BP pills and other pills due to heart, thyroid and diabetes issues; nevertheless, they have nothing to do with the interatrial septal aneurysm.  The main pill to take for this is "low dose aspirin".  Talk to your doctor about taking it once daily.

I was basically told not to worry about it, that alot of people have them and just don't know it.  High tech test now are just showing more than older methods.  I hope this helps you and eases your stress on it.  (HUGS).

Can anyone share more about their experiences with this (interatrial septal aneurysm).

I am reading a lot about the possibility of TIA and stroke with this problem.

AHH!  Can I get ANY good news lately?  These have been the worst 6 weeks of my life.

The septum of interest is the wall that separates the left and right atria (upper heart chambers). An aneurysm would be a buldging of the wall into the right atrium during the lower lef ventricle filling phase.  This would happen as the left atrium has a higher pressure.

The risk is ann aneurysm has the potential to rupture or burst. Patients who are diagnosed with an atrial septal aneurysm often also have a patent formen ovale (PFO), which is an opening between the upper chambers of the heart (usually closes after birth.

Thanks for your question, and if you have any other questions, you are welcome to respond.  Take care.
