irregular beats

Recently I've had some terrifying episodes where I wake in the middle of the night in sweats, feeling smothered and like a huge weight is on my chest. I can feel my heart struggle and then I'm fine.. I've had an irregular beat as long as I can remember, but never suffered with it like I do now. Frankly, this scares me. I'm in the states at the moment traveling with my family. I know this isn't normal, but what can I do? I'm afraid to sleep at night, or at all, for fear of not waking up.. I'm too damn young to be seeing that bright light everyone talks about.. Got too many people depending on me to go just yet. I've contacted my physician back home, but I'd like to know what I can do now to relieve this and perhaps know the severity of it. Here I am, a paramedic and I'm asking you the severity of a heart condition.. If you can get back to me before the end of this month, as I will be leaving out of the country by then..(7th July 1998) Thank you.. Kindest Regards.. Ron Adkins
