Want to know % risk for developing a heart attack with the following information:
49 yo male with Total cholesterol - 230 and LDL = 171 and HDL normal range
Routing stress test mildly abnormal leads to angiogram with diffuse plaques throughout coronary arteries.  Cath reveals multiple blockages but no stents required due to good blood flow / pressure measurements.

Patient has mild chest discomfort.  Obtuse marginal 2 vessels not studied by blood flow showed narrowing , not sure if this could account for any symptoms and likely too small to be able to addess with stent.

Is there any way to reduce risk of plaque rupture other than taking Lipitor and baby aspirin?
What is risk of developing heart attack on above meds?

Assuming no other risk factors, the risk for a 49 year old male with known CAD and the above quoted cholesterol levels is between 15% - 20% according to the AHA Heart Attack Risk Calculator. This may be a little on the high side, but with known CAD and high cholesterol, the risk is always high. The risk for the average male in this age group is 11%.

Hope this helps.
