long term effects of hypertrophy/left anterior hemiblock

what are the long term effects of hypertrophy of the heart or if there is a left anterior hemiblock?

Dear cbk,

These are two different things.  Hypertrophy of the heart refers to enlargement or 'thickening' of the heart muscle.  It is most commonly due to high blood pressure but may also be due to valvular conditions or certain types of cardiomyopathy.  Depending on the cause and the degree of thickening it can have little no no long-term effects to quite drastic long-term effects.  I am guessing that you are reading these from an EKG report so you need to be careful in the interpretation.  EKGs are notorious for 'overcalling' hypertrophy.  If your doctor is concerned about this finding an echocardiogram would be the test to confirm the diagnosis.

Left anterior hemiblock is an abnormality of the electrical conduction system that in general has no long-term effects, except  perhaps a slightly higher risk of needing a pacemaker in the future.
