loose of memory

I just have open heart operation  ( 22/12/2010 ). They replace my Mitral valve to a mechanic valve St. jude # 31. And sense them i have loose of memory , anxiety and if i dont take  ( Diazepam 10 ) when i go to sleep it is very hard for my to sleep because whwn get  ver ... [More] y silence ,  i can hear my mechanic valve, like i have in my ears ., and some time when i get up to going to the bathroom at the middle of the night it take some  time to get back to sleep . My questions it is if this is normal and may change later around. [Less]

You are certainly not the only person who have had similar problems and frustrations. The surgery was certainly a unpleasant experience for you. Difficulty sleeping, anxiety and depression are common reactions to this type of event. Also, some patients have very real problems with memory after going on cardiopulmonary bypass. They exact reason for this phenomenon is not well understood but is common.

I would discuss these problems with your primary care doctor. Medicines from the SSRI class help with anxiety and depression and may be useful for you.
