MY DAD was started.
Dear Linda Gecewicz--
I just located this web site and read the question regarding your father's problems. I hope that he is beyond these problems and has recovered from his surgery. It reminded me so much of my mother's situation last Aug./Sept. (1999). She had similar problems and was hospitalized two times additional times following surgery for a week each. Her recovery was long.
My Father 71 had a quad bypass surgery the 4th.of january 2000
the first week after surgery he was so well, could walk a bit,
then the lung fails, they gave him oxygen by tracheotomy, sometimes he could breath correctly, then the lungs failed again and finally the kidneys failed and he died 2 month after surgery.(Heartforum 2.02.2000.)The week befor he was so well and told us about his project for his and my mams further. For the family it was so hard to accept, because nobody could explain us correctly what was realy happens. We think now, it was maybe time to go home for him.
I wish you and everybody who need a heard-surgery a lot of chance and that god bless you and your family.

It sounds like he is having a slow recovery from surgery - that happens sometime. It sounds like they initially removed fluid from around his lungs. If it re-accumulates, the x-ray should pick it up. Fluid around the lung like this usually causes no permanent sort of damage. His doctors will continue to monitor him as he recovers, but it may still take several days.
