medicines used for Labile HBP

medicines used for Labile HBP

I am a 69 yr. old male. I feel I am in pretty good health but when I was in law school at 38 yrs. old I was diagnosed as having HBP. 150´s over 100¨s and as part of a current health program I was asked to join, I was given a perscription for tranquilizers. I never took the tranks b/c my wife convinced me to start running. My next visit (a month later) to the treating Dr. my BP was much lower & when I told the pleased Dr. that I never took the tranks she was furious and kicked me off the program. (justified but unexplained to me why I was chosen for this program in the first place).

I have monitered my BP since then and my BP has always gone between good & bad. It was obvious to me that i got high results when at the Dr¨s. office and even when I took it at home and was anxious as to what it would be.it was high. It seemed that running was my medicine b/c it did lower my BP.  When i wanted to join the Peace Corps at 56 yrs. old I had a physical to take in which i was also told that I had HBP. I was finally put on Lotrial 5  (Enalapril) twice a day a yr. later. Then that was raised a few yrs. later by another Dr. to 10 2/daily. This is my concern: I recently started getting some readings over 180/105 so i went to a different Dr. who gave me a MAPA exam. From that she said my average BP was 149/88 which was a little high. She explained to me that indivual readings, especially when they vary a lot did not mean anything..She suggested that i had Labile hypertension (high readings caused by anxiety and stressful situations) and told me to continue with the Lotrial and start taking a diuretic Natrilix SR.The smallest dosage here is 1.5 mg and she told me to only take one half of that a day. A month later another MAPA showed a substantial drop weth the highs dropping from 176 to 154 and the lows from 110 to 96 and a total average below the 130/90 level.

Sence i am not sure that the Lotrial was necessary in the first place I am thinking about trying to cut back on that but before i talk to her about that I would like to know if any of the readers have been using Enalapril Maleato over an extended period of time and experienced negative health effects from it and what they are?
