menopause and palpitations

by muffinstuff, Sep 09, 2008 10:50PM
I have suffered from palpations  for almost 30 years. I am now 48 years old and reaching menopause, and they have become an everyday almost every hour occurance.  I was wondering if the hormonal changes from menopause could be causing them to be more prominant and pronounced?  I am currently taking a beta-blocker, but my bp already is low without them ( 90/50) so I only take 1/2 of 25mg a day.  I am getting hot flashes with the palpatations now and yes it is very annoying.  I am not stressing out about them, actually I am pretty laid back and I'm not experiencing any stress.  I'm still having cycles, but I'm thinking the hot flashes may be peri menopausal symptoms. I have very mild mitral valve prolapse and I don't believe that is the underlying cause, as I have had that for years. I was diagnosed with an irregular heartbeat at age 23, no specific cause. No caffeine, chocolate, or much processed sugar for the last 25 years and no smoking either. Any ideas?
