mild heart attack and too much aerobics

by guyandrews, Aug 16, 2005 12:00AM
I am wondering if I have actually brought on a heart attack by overdueing my aerobic workout on the treadmill this past Sunday? I am 51 years old. This Sunday I wwas doing 6 sets of sprints on the treadmill and in the 5th sprint I started feeling some chest pains. My sprints were about 3 minutes long which got my heart rate up to about 180-184. I went ahead and did a sixth sprint but only for about 2 minutes. Since then I have been feeling a lot of the symptoms of a heart attack. I am in excellant health. Non smoker, non drinker,a nd am traing for a half marathon in Sept. but i think I may have done some damage by this overkill on the treadmill.....

guy,

thanks for the post.

Im assuming you havent been looked at by a health professional. The only way to diagnose a heart attack is to be examined, have an ECG and some lab test. If you have concerns about your chest pains you should be examined.

Your exercise didnt bring on a heart attack and I would argue if you had an event, it probably is why you havent had one before now.

Get evaluated. No matter what, fitness will be an important component of your future cardiovascular regimen.

good luck

I hope it's just pulled chest muscles. If the discomfort can be replicated, then there's no need to be worried. Goodluck!
