mild heart attack

by jptr15, Mar 04, 2003 12:00AM
A few months ago, I was diagnosed as having some valve regurgitation. My doctor said that I shouldn't be concerned, so I forgot about it. Last night my heart began to race, I felt a dull ache in my chest and around to my shoulder blade. My throat and my jaw felt tight. I couldn't catch my breath and was incredibly dizzy. This went on until I went to bed. My husband wanted to call an ambulance, but I insisted that I would be ok. I feel better this morning, but am still short of breath. I'm apprehensive about calling the doctor, because he already has told me I have nothing to worry about. I was concerned this morning so I looked up info about heart attacks. My symptoms are horribly similar and now I'm very nervous. My question is if this was a mild heart attack, what should I do now?

Dear jptr,

Sorry to hear about your chest pain. A heart attack is the result of damage to the heart muscle. One is not able to tell whether or not a heart attack has taken place unless they are evaluated by a physician with blood tests and electrocardiography (ECG). It is impossible to know if you had a heart attack based on this description. You should see a doctor immediately. I would not recommend using this forum to answer questions regarding an acute situation. If you are having symptoms you should go to the nearest emergency room. I hope you feel better.

Thanks for your question,
