mild pulmonary hypertension

30/F, obese, no other illnesses. No symptoms except for some palpitations when walking up stairs.  Cardio ordered an Echo just to check.  Everything was normal except for the part which read "mild pulmonary hypertension (pulmonary acceleration time 105 msecs)."  No mention of pulmonary artery pressure.  My follow up with the cardiologist is next week but in the meantime I'm very anxious.  have history of taking diet pills 7 yrs ago so i feel like I'm anticipating a death sentence.  I guess it is a blessing that this was found this early.  Does anyone know HOW abnormal my values are?  Am I going to deteriorate in the next 2.8 years (as stated in some websites)?  Is there hope that this can be reversed?  Would like to hear from others who have mild PAH as well.

my echo showed  pulmonary pressure of 41mmgHg.  However, the cardiologist said that the technician overestimated it and he assured me that I don't have pulmonary hypertension.  Reading your message makes me feel a little more peaceful...but i am wondering why you and your doctor suspected that you had PH.  Also, you said that echo are frequently wrong...if so, then, what would trigger the doctor to order right heart catherization?

I just recently had a right heart cath because of moderate tricuspid regurgitation and a calculated pulmonary pressure of 40-50mmHg from echo. Although I had four echoes all stating that I had mild-moderate pulmonary hypertension, it turns out I don't have it at all. The right heart cath showed normal pressures. Not freak out over the echo. They are frequently wrong when calculating pulmonary pressure because it is based upon the velocity of the tricuspid regurgitation. Also with the current meds the 2.8 year survival is no longer valid. People are living long lives with this condition, even those with severe pulmonary hypertension. If you are concerned and want more info. go to www.phassociation.org  and buy their book "A patients survival guide", it is wonderful.
