mild to moderate mitro reg
I have had a Heart murmer on and off being heard for 10 years had a echo 10 years ago showed flow murmmer. I'm 39 now and 2 years ago my doctor said she heard my murmmer so we did not do an echo right away 2 years later I said I wanted to get an updated echo which i just got and it came back mild to moderate mitro reg. which my doctor said will wait and see ..since I also have anxiety that's the worst thing you could say to me. I also have low thyroid which I take medicine for and also bp 110/70 usually.so Should I worry about this ? and what are my odds on it changing to worse? I was really anxious about this echo I just took could that have effected the results ?I'm going to talk to the CArdiologist that read my report in 2weeks for my piece of mind but I don't want to spend every day worring about it I also have a 1yrold baby and 7yr old son ..Could my recent pregnancy have effected this at all ? I'm 27 and a mother of three.
I have a pacemaker due to SVT.
Also, mild to moderate MVP. Recently, I was doing yard work and I began having severe chest pain but, I kept on working trying to ignore it. Thinking to myself that this must be normal. I did surcome to the pain though. Every other beat was tear-jerking, I was in horrible pain. I felt as if my heart was doing sumersaults. I had a Doctors appointment yesterday, I told him what had happened, we did a Echo-cardiogram and stress test.
He told me that it more than likely was my mitral valve.
I'm honestly not so sure! Has anyone or does any suffer from symptoms like this? He did put me on Cardizem 240mg. I'm so affraid that it is something dangerous. He said, That I had 4 to 5 extra beats. Can anyone give me some helpful feedback????

the poster is good to go. generally speaking the regurge never really improves. The bvest thing to hope for is for it to remain stable in it's amount of leakyness. No point in worrying something you have no control over.
I have a heart murmur all my life and I am 64, the murmur is from mitral reguratation. My dr. is not concerned about it, but I do get a echo every year.My excursion rate changes from one echo to another. I have been advised to take ab"s befoe dental work as of yet either. Two of my sisters also have mitral regurgstaion, one is older and the other is younger and neither of themn have a problem either. We were all born with a heart murmur and my father also had one, he never had a heart problem.
I was tod that anxiety can make it appear worse on a echo, but maybe the the DR.can answer that, Because I was not told this by a Dr.
Talk to your cardio if this is affecting your anxiety level, but I know many people who have mitral regurg or prolaspe.

Not as much as you are. A lot of people have mild to moderate mitral regurgitation and it never progresses. Generally, I would check another echo in a year or two to see if it has changed. If stable, I wouldnt probably check another echo for a while after or unless you deveolp symptoms.

As mentioned above if stable over time, the chance of progressing becomes less. I would put it out of your mind. This is a very common finding. For now all it means is for you to control your blood pressure and keep in shape.

Probably not. Focus on your kids and try to put this out of your mind.

It means that the valve leaks a little bit instead of forminf a water tight seal between the chambers. Again, this is a relatively common finding that may stay stable for the rest of your life or for a long while.
