miserable with cough, tiredness since Verapamil

I am 62 yrs old female, B/P since late 30's.  Was on Indapamide for most years occasionally trying others with the problem of side effects.  When one has to work and earn these side effects become most debilitating.  Indapamide with yrs of use excreted all potassium.  Had to try others and Verapamil proved the least debilitating but was extremely sick recently with chest pain, pnumonia and pleurisy and hospitalised.  Results were to add asprin but these side effects of combined Verapamil and asthma were extreme bend over chest pains and I still have to work.  Have never really recovered and now I am sick again.  I have run, cycled, tramped and not over weight all my life.  I am told "******" genes, father died at my age, but he smoked heavily, never exercised etc.  What to do
