hi again have another problem. 26 year old son with hcm is now feeling his heart beating after getting out of a hot bath. he says it feels like it's coming through his chest and sometimes hears it in his ears. part of his hcm or an added problem? he doesn't goto his hcm clinic until march 4 so it's a long wait. seems everything that happens now he starts to panic and if he doesn't i do.

Dear Almost,
Sorry to hear about the new symptoms your son has been experiencing. Patients with HOCM are at risk for developing atrial fibrillation and ventricular tachycardia. The recent onset of palpitations may represent a rhythm disturbance and the caring physician should be informed. Your doctor may want your son to wear holter monitor, a device that records the heart's electrical activity for 24 to 48 hours. I would recommend giving your doctor's office a call today.
