Dear Melissa,

Moyamoya disease is a vascular disease that results in occlusions of the intracranial arteries, especially the internal carotid artery and the stem of the middle and anterior cerebral arteries.  The cause is not well understood.  It may result in a transient ischemic attacks or a stroke.  It occurs mainly in orientals and in younger individuals.  Angiograms are usually done to confirm the blockages and to help in determining the best treatment.  Treatment may be medical or surgical depending on the extent of blockages and damage.  Hope this information helps.
