mvp and altitude sickness

I have had mitral valve prolapse since diagnosed as a child.  I moved from La Jolla, California (sea level) to Colorado Springs, Colorado two weeks ago.  Since moving to Colorado, I am breathless to the point of using an inhaler.  I get dizzy and the left side of my heart hurts at times or flutters at other times.   I have high blood pressure on the diastolic side and take 10 mg a day of Atenolol.    I grew up by Joliet, Illinois (sea level) and then moved to California for 10 years without much trouble with the MVP.  It was not until moving to Colorado that these symptoms started.  I am a non-smoker and a non-drinker.  I do not engage in illegal drugs.   I do take prescribed medication for fibromyalgia and arthritis.   Any answers would be most helpful.  Thank you, Eileen Pinky.

There are multiple problems that could be causing symtpoms of dizziness and shortness of breath and mitral valve prolapse can be one of them.  Typically, people will acclimate to the thin air at elevation, but if the symptoms persist, I would pursue further evaluation with your physician to possibly include a treadmill stress test and echo to see if the mitral prolapse is worsening.
