I'm sorry to hear your boyfriend is having difficulties and I can see this must be very worrying for you. I assume that from what you say, he is still in ICU with a ventilator breathing for him. This is actually normal after bypass surgery because the lungs are paralysed with anaesthetic and the surgery is over several hours meaning it takes a long time to wear off. When you say he is losing a lot of blood, I am assuming you witnessed the tubes coming from his chest into plastic containers which collect excess fluid in the chest? This is normal too. It was 2 or 3 days before my tubes were removed. As the body heals, less and less fluid is collected in the containers and when they reach zero, the tubes are removed. I had a ventilator for 24 hours to breathe for me. I hope your comments are just going by what you witnessed and there were no complications which you are unaware of. It is a scary sight, which is why I told my wife not to visit me until all the tubes were removed. I knew it would scare her to death.

Hello!  I am sorry that you are going through this at this time.  Have you discussed your concerns with his doctor or a family member?  They might be able to give you the information you need, and be able to put your mind at ease.  Do you have any family or friends near by to support you while you go through this?  I know it was so scary to see my dad with all those tubes after his bypass. He didn't even look like my dad.  But he recovered very well and wore that scar on his chest like it was his "Red Badge of Courage".  Take care, be patient and keep us posted.  Ally
