need an EP

need an EP

I have sinus tachycardia.  I have been put on metoprolol 12.5 mg BID.  I have been taking it 12 hours apart, 7:30 AM & PM, but it seems to wear off at night about 7 PM.  Is this typical?

All of my tests have shown sinus tach and that is it.  I have had an echo and basic lab tests and they all show everything normal.

I took my medicine early this morning at 6:10 and had an episode of tachy at 11:30 AM, which is unusual for me on this medicine.

The cardiologist I saw has not given me a specific diagnosis.  Should I increase my medication to 3X a day?  Should I take a higher dose 2X a day?

The cardiologists office rarely calls back and I can't get in to see him until July of 2008.  Based on what I've read throughout these posts, I need an EP and a definitive diagnosis.  If anyone has knowledge of a good EP in the Rockford, IL area, please respond!

I am a teacher and I can't work when my episodes happen.  They take up to an hour to resolve.  It scares my children as well as myself and I have already lost a lot of pay for going over my allowed sick days.  Thanks for reading.  Any advice or help is appreciated.

I actually too 25 MG of Metoprolol twice daily and I had to up my take to a third dosing in the middle of the day...usually about 6 or 7 hours apart from one another and I'm fine now! Metoprolol actually only last 4 to 5 hours and then it's gone unless you're on the extended release Toprol.  So I'd take 3 doses instead of 2 higher ones cause the higher ones would just affect you stronger...but not longer....you know?

Thank you for all your comments.  I have SVT and actually had another episode today.  I went to the ER and the ER doctor called my cardiologist.  He told me to take 12.5 mg 3 times a day and see how that works.  I am really quite confused by all of this.  I never had any health problems until last month, May 4th to be exact.  Can this stuff just pop in out of nowhere?  I really enjoy reading all of these threads.  It makes me feel better knowing that other people go through this as well.

Please don't change your dose of meds without a doctor's ok.  I don't know that you need an EP, but surely there are other cardiologists there who can see you before July, 2008!  That's just ridiculous.  They must be really good!  Usually a sinus tach would gradually return to a normal rate, SVT is more likely to stop and end abruptly and that's what yours sounds like, but I'm not a doctor.  Have your events been captured on a monitor?

I know how you feel, just a few weeks ago i was a normal college student and now i worry about random PSVT episodes which i had twice so far since November and ontop of that i am in the process of being diagnosed with inappropriate sinus tachycardia. I take a beta blocker twice a day and the thought of me having to take pills at such a young age is sad to me. but we should look at the bright side and be happy that we caught these conditions now as opposed to ignoring them.
