My mother has been fitted with pacemaker since 2001. In the initial days she was having some problem with her pacemaker, but after some days the problems were gone. But again for last 6-7 months she is having some problems, some regular physician said the battery of the pacemaker needs to be changed. And we are also thinking in the same way as it is near about 10 yrs the pacemaker has been put in place.
Sir, do you think that the battery needs to be replaced now? OR is it better to go for new pacemaker? If it is better to go for new one, then which company we should go for.
And one more thing, is it mandatory to change the battery at every 10 yrs? We have heard that there are some pacemakers which has guarantee of more than 20 yrs ..... if so, can you just give us details?

If pacemakers are like defibrillators (and I would think they are),  when the batteries wear down the whole device needs to be replaced - there is no way to replace just the battery.  Technology has advanced in the last 10 years, and I'm sure they would want to use the newest device, not just put a battery in a 10-year-old one.  And if they are like defibrillators, when they have to be replaced varies.  There should be a way to check to see if the batteries are still good.  With my defibrillator, when I go in every 3 months to get it checked, they check the battery life.  You really need to get some information from her cardiologist or whoever the doctor is in charge of her pacemaker.
