I visited beach in Honduras March 12, got 26 bites on my back which infected, leaked, itched and scabbed.Worried about parasite or mosquito since headaches started on March 22 and have worresened considerably...I have red inflammation of breast since March 30, bad bladder infection with lots of blood April 19, blood pressure rose from 125 over 80 up to 180 over 110, nosebleeds, I have seen 6 doctors through ER visits and referrals..Neurologist, Urologist, Breast surgeon..and had following tests...kidney & bladder ultrasound, mammogram for IBC,EEG & CAT SCAN...am booked for ultrasound of breast on July 4th and scope to bladder on May 25th...I am quite concerned because headaches have gotten so bad I have had to have needles for pain...and put on stimatil drip...I take lots of advil..I waken with headaches and put ice packs on head...My right eye jumped for 2 days a few wks ago, now left eye started..I feel like something is crawling in my left ear...tickling feeling, my ears pop frequently as though I had sinus problem, I was on CYPRO 500 mg twice daily for 10 days for bladder inf. breast still pains with shooting pains ... now I have a large cold sore which I never get...Very worried I picked up micro oranisms..one doctor last week said I have a heart murmer which I never had before....I am 58 years old and have been in excellent health previous to this trip.  Each doctor I see seems to want to concentrate on the one thing and not the whole picture...

Dear miata,
I can't think of a connection between the insect bites and a new heart murmur.  There are many types of murmurs and it is possible you have a "benign" or "flow" murmur.  It is also possible that you have had a murmur a long time and nobody has previously detected it.  If your doctor is concerned about the murmur the best test is an echocardiogram.  This is an ultrasound of the heart that can measure blood flow across the heart valves and determine if the murmur is serious or not.

In regard to the overall picture I would recommend seeing an Internal Medicine doctor.  He/she can look at the big picture and refer you to specialists as needed. Check with your local teaching hospital or medical school for a good Internal Medicine doctor if you do not already have one.
