normal cholesterol but high triglycerides

I am a 48 yr old female with high triglycerides but my cholesterol is fairly normal. Last chol. reading was 219, and triglycerides were 324. I have tried all kinds of meds. with every side effect they offer. Lipitor, Zetia, Lovastatin and am now on Tricor. I exercise regularly, weigh 155(which I am trying to lose some weight slowly) and am 5' 6" tall. I also had a complete hysterectomy16 yrs ago and am still taking hormones because I couldn't sleep at night the 3 or 4 times I have tried to go off them. I have tried to take Omega 3 to help in lowering the triglycerides also but it makes my stomach hurt so bad and I have diarhea (diarrhea). My question: Could hormones affect my triglyceride and cholesterol level in any way in that my body is more sluggish on getting rid of the fat in my blood? I do not drink alcohol and I do not smoke. I do have heart disease in my family. My dad and mom.

I understand that you are on HRT, on the lowest dose of estrogen ( CEE) and progesterone ( MPA)  possible? Is that correct? If so you should know that the long term follow-up of women with coronary disease who underwent long term HRT ( 4 years) time were found to have increased cardiovascular events during the first year of treatment, after which the two leveled off. In the end there was no benefit from HRT in cardiovascular events, but there was a 25% increase in events during the first year of HRT.
In primary prevention, the Women's health initiative tested women older than yourself for the hypothesis that HRT protected against cancer/fractures or heart disease. This trial found no benefit from the HRT on heart disease, but a decrease in fractures risk, and increase in thromboembolism risk and no change in breast cancer risk over the 7 year period.
The bottom line is that HRT is probably not going to decrease your heart disease risk, but if you have been taking it for over one year isn't likely to increase it either. The HRT doses of estrogen and progestin do not cause major changes in your lipid levels.

I didnt want to post another question to the Doctors when this one is pretty close to my question. I am 25 male weight 200 pounds and i have been taking tricor for over a month. It lowered my Tri's but not my cholesterol (still 235). I also gained 10 pounds from the medication. I was told to stop taking tricor today and use lipitor. Is lipitor going to help with my tri's?
