palpitations

by nellb, Dec 03, 2008 06:22AM
I have had palpitations since 2001, they last for a couple of hours and every day for a couple of weeks, by the time I have been referred to have a monitor on they have gone, they were bad in 2006 as I had gone cold turkey giving up cigs and they started about a week of no nicotine, went to Doc's sent me for an ecg but that was 3 weeks later and they had stopped, I went for 6 monthe to a stress councilor, and I did everything she advised and they stopped , they do happen quite often but on for a couple of seconds until last night and I was up for 2 hours with my heart going fast slow stopping and starting missing a beat, I was so upset about this as I do not know what has caused this, roday I am feeling really scared it is going to happen again..what should I do.

Mine does this too yet the doctors cannot find anything wrong with my heart yet.  The cardiologist thinks this is an adrenal problem in which my heart will just start beating kind of like a train roaring down the tracks faster and faster for minutes, or hours and one time for 2 days straight, then my heart will stop (extremely scary) and feel almost like a twisting uncomfortable feeling and then start beating normal again.  Fortunately this does not happen that often.  Causes are exercise (I cannot ride a bike), eating black licorce, caffeine. This could be what is happening to you also. If your heart seems to be beating irregular most of the time, I would mention it to your doctor.  There is a tiny chance for blood clots with an irregular heartbeat.
