paroxysmal Afib

paroxysmal Afib

Hello, I have a couple of questions.  It is my understanding that an elevated level of cisapride is capable of causing paroxysmal Afib.  My question is that after the medication is stopped and substantial fibrillations are still occuring once a week what can be done to fix this. Thanks,Beth

Dear Beth,
Once the drug is out of your system (cisapride is metabolized by the liver and kidney, so long as those organs are functioning normally, the drug should be out of your system by a week) you can no longer attribute the dysrhythmia to the drug.  So basically your "fibrillations" need further investigation, preferably by a cardiologist or electrophysiologist (cardiologist that specializes in heart rhythm abnormalities.)
I hope this information is useful. Information provided in the heart forum is for
general purposes only.  Only your physician can provided specific diagnoses and therapies.
Feel free to write back with further questions. Good luck!
