pause in heart beat during sleep

pause in heart beat during sleep

Hi everyone,

after taking finetilthree's advice i've decided to post my qs here.(sorry if you have already read it on the other thread)
I obtained a copy of my 24 hr ecg results. my cardiologist told me over the phone that it was normal, however after looking at it in detail at home i realised it said that i had 1 PAUSE during sleep!!! my heart rate is between 45-55 bpm during sleep. it also says i had some bradycardia beats (11) during sleep. my main concern is is PAUSE. I keep thinking that the cardiologist may not have seen it on the report and thats why he said its normal. Has anyone else heard of anyone getting a pause on their 24 holter/ecg?

I had a pause of 1.5 seconds.  My doc says that is normal.  My HR also went way down while sleeping, but, again, my doc says everyone's HR is low while sleeping.  Don't worry! Sounds like you're doing great! Good to hear your pvs have decreased.  Just keep in mind you will have good days and bad days (your 54 ectopics)! Oh, one more thing, the pause coul've been nothing.  Monitors aren't perfect and everone rolls and/or moves while sleeping.  Could've been artifact!

I agree with everything finetilthree said!

My last Holter showed ST elevations and ST depressions.  Now, if I went by what you read on the internet, I'd be convinced I had cardiomyopathy, coronary artery disease and a host of other extremely serious conditions that could cause this.  But the truth of the matter is that I was sleeping on my leads and it was nothing more than artifact, picked up only in the particular leads I was sleeping on.

Now see?  If I would have over thought that, where would my mind be?  Nowhere positive, that's for sure.

Short pauses aren't rare, and a pulse below 60 while sleeping may even be a good sign.  Since I got into very good shape recently, my resting heart rate is lower, and this my sleeping heart rate has gone down a couple bpm as well.

Don't let this worry you.  I guarantee if it was anything at all to worry about, they'd have told you.  With the lawsuit-happy society we live in, docs are scared not to mention every detail.  Rest easy, it sounds like you are doing great aside from stress.

I had a "pause" showed on the monitor.  It was 3.2 second at 2:14pm (not sleeping).  My cardio said "it didn't make sense!"

I asked a anesthetist, how long it can allow the heart "Pause" during the sedation?  He said is 5 seconds.  After 5 seconds they'll give a paddle "shock".  I saw in another forum, someone "pause" twice in a row: 9 second then 8 second.  finally the dr gave her/him a pacemaker.
