plaque in blood vessel in the brain

Is there a safe and effective medical procedure to remove and or dissovle the plaque in blood vessels in the brain?

There is nothing that can remove the plaque other than stenting which in reality pushes the plaque to the side.  It does the job though.  Cholesterol plaques can't be dissolved quickly, but statin therapy can at least slow down lesion progression and in some cases maybe cause some lesion regression, although, the latter has not be proven to be a very robust process.
