polypharmacy

I have been taking zestril for about 7  years.  Recently, on a trip to my doctor's office my pressure was found to be 140/100.  He prescibed Hytrin.  I have been taking that medication for the past year.  My blood pressure is measured almost daily by me at home and it runs from 130-90/85-70.  On my last visit to my doctor's office, the blood pressure reading was the same as previously measured.  He suggested I add a calcium channel blocker to those I already take.  I have frequent headaches and he suggested this may be the result of uncontrolled high blood pressure.  I would agree that this might be true if I did not have at home mesurements that lead me to suspect that this is not the case.  Furthe I worry that an ace inhibitor, an alpha inhibitor and a calcium channel blocker is a liitle much.

Dear Judd,

I would recommend an ambulatory BP monitor before doing all these things. You may want to increase one of your meds to absolute maximum before adding another.
