poor circulation

by Edward-Yazijian, Apr 02, 1999 12:00AM

I love my doctor and wouldn't go to anyone else even though his eyes glaze over whenever I bring up a new problem. When I complained about chest pain during sex, he said I was bragging. I walk 4 miles every day, and never have any chest discomfort. I can run up stairs full bore, and still no pain. However, it's no baloney, I really have what feels like classic angina according to the literature, during sex. It's not excruciating, but it's crushing enough to worry me. Finally my doctor ordered a bunch of tests, and concluded I must be some kind of animal in bed because the tests failed to support a diagnosis of angina.

After that episode, I went in with another eye glaze job. This time I told him that my r/hip hurt when I walked as did my calf. The hip is a straight forward pain (moderate). The calf is a kind of chintzy, heavyish, numblike feeling which is quite bearable. Neither gets worse on my daily 4 mile walks, in fact, sometimes both pains subside a little. I think all my beefs are related to lousy circulation.

To pacify me, the doctor put me on 20mg Lipitor pills to reduce my lipids.
My total Cholesterol dropped from 234 to 158, LDL from 142 to 68, HDL from 68 to 73, and the trigs. from 122 to 85. Now I'm afraid to ask if the Lipitor isn't working too good.

The bottom line is I'd like to know if I'm making a federal thing about the chest pain, and is my r/leg getting enough blood.

Dear Edward,
Great to hear that the lipitor is working so well, your levels were fairly high which is a risk factor for coronary and peripheral artery disease.
My advice is this: Go to someone who's eyes DO NOT glaze over at all!
If you the patient feel there is something wrong, even if its not a life-threatening condition, it should be fully investigated until relief or a cause is found.  Keep in mind that even a normal stress test is no guarentee that you do not have blockages in your coronary arteries.  You need a doctor, Edward, who will complete a full history and physical exam, put the facts together and do his/her best to figure out the likelihood you have coronary disease, GI disease, "poor circulation", etc.
I hope this information is useful. Information provided in the heart forum is for
