post-op VSD ablation

post-op VSD ablation

I'm a 39 yr old male ACHC, post surgical VSD with pulmonary stenosis (1972, Aberdeen at CHOP) with tachycardia off and on since.  It has been generally controlled with Nadalol & Quinidine, but this spring it has been less successful and now an ablation has been recommended.  How successful are ablations with my condition when the cause is likely scarring?  Are there unique risks?  thx

Dear VSD,

The success would depend on the location of the tachycardia and the skill of the operator.  For complex congenital cases you want to see someone with a great deal of experience.  I would recommend coming somewhere like the Cleveland Clinic to see Dr. Natale or to University of Oklahoma to see Dr. Jackman.  There are also major heart centers on both coasts that would be appropriate.  Scarring is not a problem in general.  There are no unique risks to your case.
