pravastatin instead of atorvastatin ?
Was just switched from 5 mg atorvastatin to 10 mg pravastatin.

5 month after MI and stent.  Have made major diet changes to only plant based foods and kept TC about 115 and LDL at about 60 as verified by three tests over this period.

why would I be switched?   what would be the advantage to pravastatin?   I have had minor muslce pain in upper back over recent months but doctor does not think it is due to statin.

thanks

Pravastatin is metabolized differently from the other traditional statins which utilize the CYP3A4 isoenzyme.  Dependin on what your other medications are, there may be an interaction that your prescribing physician may have been concerned about.  Otherwise, there is not a significant difference in the effect between the two given your current lipid profile.  Also, historically pravastatin has been available as a generic drug ($4 Walmart formulary) but atorvastatin should also be available now for a similar price.
